Dear AP Psych Student

Image
So there is two weeks of school left and my year in psych is almost over... Honestly this class was a lot of fun and if you manage the workload properly its not too bad. First and Foremost you should always do your vocab - based on the STUDY PLAN ( or you can be like me and cram 200 words the night before!) . Honestly if you follow the study plan, the vocab is very manageable: it's only 10-12 words each night and you can live stress free. Basically vocab is the biggest thing you need to know for this class. My favorite project we did this year was probably the orange brain. We basically identified parts of the brain on an orange and it looked cute XD! It also gave me a good idea of where these brain parts were in the brain- which was super helpful on the AP!  IF anything had to left out I would say maybe a few content digs. Not all but a few. On the days the students look super tired ;)! Also don't be surprised if you start noticing the vocab words you learned in real life.

Yoga the soul excercise

Image
One of the most prevalent issues of being a high schooler is dealing with loads of stress. Rather than resorting to unhealthy methods of recouping such as eating 24/7 (I need to work on this!) a better alternative for lazy souls like mine would be to do yoga. Yoga is NOT lazy people work but it sure beats having to find your one pair of athletic shoes and waiting for the perfect day so you can go outside and run and come home all sore so you decide to stop working out the next few days and lose any potential benefits you may have gotten out of your one time workout. XD Yoga helps us achieve psychological relaxation which is a change in relaxation in the neurological level. Yoga has been shown to increase GABA in the rain and improve mood, behavior and mindfullness. Yoga relieves stress and reduces muscle tension. It strengthen and elogonates you muscles( basically it’s working out without one drop of sweat). The deep breathing shifts your body into a state of relaxation which is c

Personality Tests

Image
Sooo this week we were taking personality tests. Not exactly sure what to make of them... The first test I took was the Jung Typology test. Basically you answer a series of statements and rate how much they represents you. According to the test I'm 9% more of an extrovert than an introvert, which by the way , I don't necessarily disagree with. I have a 16% preference of using my intuition rather than my senses, 12% preference of feeling over thinking and 6% of judging over perceiving. I think overall the test wasn't too bad but I think it was limited in what it asked. The second test I took was a quiz that ranked which Harry Potter house you would be sorted into. Once again it was a series of statements. The first part of the test asked you how much you agreed with each statement and the second part was about how easy you found each task listed. This test had multiple statements that were worded just a little differently but still conveyed the same idea so I guess it ha

EYES!!!!!

Image
Summary: Scientists at University of Warwick England discovered that the ectoenzyme,  E-NTPDase2, could lead to eye generation. After a series of tests, they determind that  E-NTPDase2  was the only ectoenzyme that drove eye development and found that by increasing levels  of this ectoenzyme along with ATP and ADP in tadpoles,  they could grow parts of the eye on other body parts of the tadpole besides the head. Since eye development is similar in frogs and humans it’s a breakthrough in stem cell reaserach and scientists hope to be able to grow progenitor cells for different eye types.  My take on this: Honestly without my glasses I could probably see about less than a foot in front of me so any progress in the vision field is a victory for me! XD  The idea of growing eyes on a frogs tail is kind of sickening(imagine if all our backyards had 4eyed frogs running  around! Yikes) but I think it really cool what this discovery could lead to. Who knows,  maybe eye transplants maybe the

My LIfe Story

My Life Story: So where do I begin... I was born two minutes before my brother as one in a 1 billion people (literally) in my lovely hometown country of India. I spent my first two years alternating between both my grandparents homes while my parents moved to America and apparently I was quite a demanding 2 year old. Honestly it seems silly now, but I wouldn't eat until I had seen the elephants walk by our house.  It's seems strange but that was life in India. Every where you look is beautiful mountains, greenery, butterflies, elephants, stray dogs and life. However ,after living for 17 years, I've seen enough of the world to sustain a few important accomplishments. Milestones: Moved to US in 2003 Started classical dancing 2006 February 14th 2007 - Became the World's best, most perfect older sister!!! December 2010- First piano recital June 2012- graduated from elementary  June 2016- graduated from middle school August 2017 - now: Surviving high school XD!!!

BioHero

Hi Everyone! My birthday is October 9th so my brain hero is Brophaphin. Broca's area is related to speech production and endorphins reduce our perception of pain. Now as for the origin story... Once upon a time, on the land of Body somewhere on Earth, a lonely little brain came into the world. Poor Broca was always outshined. The frontal lobe got all the credit but you know Broca had a lot of self esteem. She kept trying again and again but she never gave up. You see when her human grew up and entered 7th grade, and the feelings of love of fluttered about, Broca helped her human eloquently profess her love to another handsome and dreamy man. It was supposed to be her big break. Her human was supposed to finally recognize Broca's contribution to her successful life. Sadly 7th graders aren't well versed in the parts or functions of the brain, so they don't really know when to be grateful. Still when the confession ended in a rejection and the little girl was heartbr
